Elena McCue is a 2017 graduate of Galena Park High School who will be attending Texas A&M University in the Fall. She plans to major in Biology. This scholarship is funded by our community partner to recognize Elena for her service in the community.

Danielle Kendrick is a 2017 graduate of Worthing High School. She plans to attend Texas Southern University in the Fall with a major in Biology. Danielle’s goal is to attend Nursing School to become a Registered Nurse.

Alexys Allen is a 2017 graduate of Wheatley High School who will be attending Houston Community College in the Fall with plans to transfer to Sam Houston State University. She plans to major in Computer Science with a focus in Forensics.

Branaun Galentine, Wheatly High School’s Class of 2016 Valedictorian, will be attending Texas A&M University in the Fall with a major in Meteorology (Atmospheric Science). He plans to follow up with a Master’s Degree and continue his research and study of Hurricanes. Branaun is a regular volunteer at the Houston Food Bank. He also works in the Youth Kitchen Ministry, and he serves as an Usher at his church where he is credited for organizing a tutoring/mentoring program. Branaun is also a delegate for the Student Council, a member of Seed to Table (a school/community service organization that operates a garden on campus), National Honor Society, HISD 2015 All-District Academic Football Team, Varsity Track and Field, and the Superintendent’s Student Ad Hoc Committee.

Jasmine Griffin, a graduate of Worthing High School’s class of 2016, is attending University of Houston-Victoria. Jasmine is a first generation college student, and is determined not to let any-thing stop her from reaching her goal of becoming a college graduate. Jasmine was active in community service with the Hospitality and Tourism Department on campus. She was instrumental in the planning and implementation of the Serving Sunnyside two-day initiative which benefited many families and members of the community.

BriAnna Hensley, a graduate of Worthing High School’s class of 2016, is attending Sam Houston State University and plans to major in Psychology. She is known for her service to classmates as a mentor, giving advice that she has acquired through her life lessons. And, BriAnna is characterized as one who wants to make a difference for herself and in the lives of others.

Alusine Davis, a graduate of Yates High School’s class of 2016, is attending Texas Southern University with a major in Engineering. Alusine was ranked number five in his graduating class and was a member of the Student Government and Numismatic Club. Alusine was also a member of the basketball, football, and baseball teams.

David Poe, will be a returning student to the University of Houston in the Fall 2015 Semester. He has a passion for computer repair and programming. He aspires to obtain a degree in Computer Science. David has overcome many health and physical obstacles, but he is determined to reach his goal of independence (attain a degree, own his own home, and drive a car) through continued hard work. He lives by the belief that he is defined by who he is and not the adversity he has endured and what he is…

Heaven Lee Murphy, the Salutatorian of Worthing High School’s class of 2015 will be attending Prairie View University in the Fall with a major in Biology. She plans to attend medical school upon the completion of her Bachelor’s Degree to become a physician with an interest in conducting research that results in more efficient treatments and cures for various diseases. Heaven was a member and held leadership position in a number of organizations including: President of the National Honor Society (Worthing Chapter), S-3 Officer in JROTC, Junior Class President, Miss Junior, Marching Band, Varsity Cheerleading, Worthing Voices of Praise Gospel Choir, and Mademoiselles Service Organization. Heaven also interned with the Houston Chronicle and the University of Texas School of Public Health. Heaven enjoys reading and writing and she wrote and directed a campus play “Don’t Judge Me”.

Jesenia Martinez is a graduate of Wheatley High School’s class of 2015. She will be attending Texas Southern University with a major of Pre-Pharmacy in the Fall. She plans to complete Pharmacy School and become a practicing Pharmacist. While a student at Wheatley, Jesenia participated in the Genesys Works Corporation with positions at Selena Perez Park and Dynegy. She was also reconized as a Project Grad Scholar and volunteered for the Houston Food Bank and Catholic Charity.
